A little Info About The Band
Deco Bay Brass Band was formed in 2014 following the amalgamation of the Port of Napier Brass Band which was formed in 1868 and the Hastings Citizens’ Band which was formed in 1880. Combined we boast over 300 years of Brass Banding in the Hawke's Bay region. Both bands have a proud tradition of providing top quality musical performance to its greater public audience and this is attested to by the results both bands have achieved at both National and District Championship competitions. Several of our players have been awarded National Championship titles at National Brass Band Championships. Both bands have over their time been well placed in the B Grade Band Competition.
Objectives of the Band
The objectives of the Deco Bay Brass Band Inc are:
Teaching the playing of brass and percussion instruments, both solo and in concert performance.
Promoting the advancement and study of brass and percussion music.
Encouraging the appreciation of brass and percussion music by the public.

Musical Director
It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Callum Hewson as Musical Director of Deco Bay Brass!
Callum brings an outstanding musical background, including 27 years with the NZ Army Band where he led the Army Band’s Mutual Aid Program—training and shaping talented musicians from Pacific Island military and police bands into high-performing ensembles.
With LTCL and FTCL qualifications in Tenor Horn performance, and experience as Solo Horn with Woolston Brass, Callum has been part of multiple national successes—including achieving Champion Band of New Zealand.
Now relocated from Whanganui to Havelock North, Callum has begun working with the band and brings a wealth of professional expertise to the Hawke’s Bay brass band community.
If you are a former player now is a great time to come back and join us as we look forward to a bright future under Callum's leadership.
